Communications Coordinator

The principal purpose of the communications program is to coordinate with other CRISPAZ programs to create a communications network for people to become linked to El Salvador and to work for solidarity in their own communities in the United States. The Communications Coordinator will also contribute to the sustainability of the organization through supporting the communications aspects of fundraising and promotion of our work.

The Communications Coordinator will be responsible for working with the South-North Solidarity team to produce Salvanet, articles for our listserv, and updates for our website. He/She will also organize information and resources for use by other CRISPAZ programs and personnel. In addition he/she will lead two delegations from our El Salvador Encounter program per year. This is a 35 hour a week position based in San Salvador, El Salvador.

Requirements:
• Written and spoken fluency in Spanish and English, with experience in written translation and spoken interpretation.
• An understanding of Salvadoran and North American culture and a demonstrated ability to function well in both and between the two.
• Writing and editing experience in English.
• Computer literacy, experience in desktop publishing especially Adobe Page Maker a plus.
• Good analysis of Salvadoran political, economic, social and religious reality.
• Basic understanding of electronic newsletters and web-site maintenance.
• Good sense of networking and ability to make and maintain contacts. Experience in popular and / or adult education and group leadership.
• Familiarity with faith based community building and a willingness to facilitate faith-based reflections for delegations.
• Ability to communicate and work effectively with staff and board members and other people with whom he/she has contact and/or working relationships.

Compensation:
• Salary commensurate with experience
• Health insurance
• Three weeks vacation
• Being part of the CRISPAZ community in El Salvador

Dates:
Application deadline: March 30, 2006, hiring decision expected by April 14, 2006. Start date for position: early to mid-May, 2006. We are asking for a minimum commitment of one year.
