It was announced Thursday morning in the Special Tribunal that the 14 people arrested during the peaceful protest in Suchitoto are being charged with “Acts of Terrorism, Unlawful Association, and Public Disorder.” They will be tried under the new Anti-Terrorism Law which was put into place on November 16, 2006 . Under this law the accused are removed from the provincial court system and are tried in special tribunals.  If convicted under this law the protesters face up to 40 years in prison.
